- If you want two computers to communicate, leave the modems out of the loop.
- If you are testing the modems, you really need a Central Office in the
- middle to provide battery, dial tone, and ring voltage. Some modems
- sense the battery voltage to tell if they are connected, and many
- wait for the dial tone. It is not difficult to build a CO, if modem testing
- is the goal.
